September 2018 Legislative Update

The 2018 interim has been a busy one for Wyoming politics and there is a good bit of new information that could be impactful to your business in this update.  Please make sure to read more to be up to date as we head towards the general election and the 2019 legislative general session.

 

 

              

 

Albertson's/Safeway & Kellogg’s Donate 2,500 Books to Encourage Wyoming Children to Read

Earlier this month long time WRA members Albertson's Safeway and Kellogg’s donated 2,500 books to Raising Readers in Wyoming, a statewide non-profit that encourages early childhood literacy by providing new books to children through pediatrician offices throughout the state.  The Albertson's Companies Foundation also donated $5,000 to help purchase additional books for the program.

Nate's Flowers is owned by M Robert Monroe, a Wyoming native born in Casper, Wyoming in 1956.
Rob has owned the business since 1994 when he purchased Nate's Flowers from Nate and Janet
Gibson, whom he worked for since 1977. The name changed to Nate's Flower Mart when Nate 
Gibson bought the business known as the Flower Mart from then owner Joe Hodsen in 1956. Joe
owned and operated the business well over twenty years according to Mr. Gibson , dating the start 
of the business around the mid 1930's.

RETAILERS SAY NEW SETTLEMENT PROPOSAL STILL FAILS TO BRING BILLIONS IN CREDIT CARD SWIPE FEES UNDER CONTROL

Fees Cost Consumers Nearly as Much as Christmas Presents or School Supplies

WASHINGTON, September 18, 2018 – The National Retail Federation today said a proposed new class action settlement, which purports to resolve claims that Visa and MasterCard set credit card swipe fees in a multi-billion dollar price-fixing scheme, largely resembles part of an agreement that both a federal appellate court and the retail industry had already rejected.

HALLOWEEN SPENDING TO REACH $9 BILLION

WASHINGTON – Once again, Americans are looking forward to splurging on their favorite candy, costumes and decorations during the Halloween season. According to the National Retail Federation’s annual survey conducted by Prosper Insights & Analytics, total spending for Halloween is expected to reach $9 billion, the second highest in the survey’s 14-year history. The figure is relatively the same as last year’s previous record of $9.1 billion.
