Supreme Court Decision on Internet Sales Tax Any Day

A closely divided United States Supreme Court will issue its ruling this month on whether or not to overrule the 1992 decision, Quill Corporation v. North Dakota, which said the Constitution bars states from collecting sales tax from companies that do not have a physical presence in the state.

MAY RETAIL SALES INCREASED 5.6 PERCENT OVER LAST YEAR AS ECONOMY CONTINUES TO GROW

WASHINGTON, June 14, 2018 – May retail sales increased 0.7 percent seasonally adjusted over April and 5.6 percent unadjusted year-over-year as a growing economy prompted consumers to continue to spend, the National Retail Federation said today. The numbers exclude automobiles, gasoline stations and restaurants.

RETAIL IMPORTS TO HIT RECORD NUMBERS THIS SUMMER DESPITE TARIFF DEBATE

WASHINGTON – Imports at the nation’s major retail container ports are expected to set record numbers this summer and fall even as the debate over trade and tariffs continues in Washington, according to the monthly Global Port Tracker report released today by the National Retail Federation and Hackett Associates.
