  2018 WRA Message from Director!

Welcome to the first WRA e-newsletter of 2018 and thank you so very much for your membership within our association. The Wyoming Retail Association consists of hundreds of retail outlets and allied businesses throughout Wyoming banded together to ensure that legislation on the state and federal level provides for a prosperous retail environment. We provide ideas and information that help you grow your business and we offer money-saving benefits to help enhance the profits of our members.

With our mission top of mind, the WRA engaged in an extremely busy 2018 Legislative Budget Session. Your association fought hard to defeat a proposed $2 million cut to the Wyoming Office of Tourism biennium budget and worked collaboratively on clean up language related to the Wyoming Pharmacy Act and biosimilars.  Numerous potentially harmful bills were introduced this session related to increases in liquor and tobacco taxes, a gross receipts tax and a significant increase to the state minimum wage.  While none of these bills ultimately moved forward your association monitored them closely and was prepared to engage as needed to ensure their defeat. The WRA was active at the legislature every day of the session ensuring that the Wyoming’s retail industry continues to flourish.

The standing legislative committees will each meet at least three times between now and the start of the 2019 Legislative General Session. The Legislative Management Council will meet later next month to approve and assign interim topics for each of the committees. Related topics of interest will be reported on as soon as the committee has agreed and assigned them. To ensure that the voice of Wyoming Retailers is considered throughout these discussions, your association will be closely engaged during the interim.

Did you know that the Wyoming Retail Association offers our members numerous money saving benefits?  Do you ship with Fed-Ex? Do you need back office solutions like payroll services, strategic planning, website development?  Are you taking advantage of the discounts our members get on office supplies from Staples?   These and many others are available as a part of your membership.  Please reach out to our sales and membership director Tom Miller at if you would like to learn more about the money savings discounts that you are entitled to as a member of our association.

Speaking of money saving benefits are you aware that the WRA offers secure credit card processing?  We understand that you are contacted regularly about credit card processing but this program is really worth taking a look at.  Unlike other processors, the WRA program does not have any hidden costs or fees.  Our service provides free supplies, free set up and programming and no chargeback fees.  All of this with no long term contracts.  Participants in our program are automatically insured against a data breach up to $100,000.  If you are unhappy with your current processor, our members that have compared are seeing savings of $1000 to $5000 annually. Contact us today for a free comparison with no commitments to see if you would save money using our processing. Let us help you bring more money to your bottom line this year!

Do you read our monthly e-newsletters and did you receive our weekly legislative updates during the 2018 legislative budget session? The WRA strives to keep you up to date on all things retail from both the state and local level. Do you have tax questions, labor issues or legal questions about changes in the state or federal laws?  The WRA acts as a “one stop shop” for all of your questions.  We interact with all state agencies, including the Wyoming Dept. of Workforce Services, the Wyoming Dept. of Revenue and the Wyoming Board of Pharmacy on a regular basis.  If you have any questions or concerns that we can help with please give us a call.  If we don’t know the answer we will help you find it immediately.

For more than 60 years the Wyoming Retail Association has existed to serve the needs of Wyoming’s retail industry.  In the coming year retailers large and small will continue to operate in an evolving landscape at both the state and federal level. It is a critical time to be proactively involved.  I sincerely look forward to working together to protecting and promoting Wyoming’s retail industry and I am honored and grateful to partner with you in these efforts.  Thank you very much for your continued support of the WRA. Please reach out to me directly, at any time, if I may be of assistance to you.

Warm Regards,
